Add Watcher in JIRA from Salesforce Field

We have a custom SF field that we want to map to the JIRA Watcher field. Every time we try to create a JIRA ticket from SF with this field mapping, we get an invalid field value mapping error. I've tried adding the JIRA username as the watcher's mapping value and it still doesn't work.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

This is an interesting use case, which I didn't think of when initially setting up my SalesForce - Jira integration.
So this means that we can map the SalesForce Case Owner to be a 'watcher' on the Created/Associated Jira issue?

Can you please share the mapping you've made for this to happen?

Thank you,
Ido.

Hi Ido,

Well, we have a custom field in SF called Case Watcher that we want to map to the Watchers field in JIRA. This is not the case owner. However, we get a validation error when trying to create a ticket. The fields won't sync.

Hi Steven,

This feature is not supported at the moment.

However, we can raise a feature request for this but it will depend on feasibility and market demands.

Kevin

Thanks, Kevin! Would be great to be able to map a SF field to the JIRA Watchers field.

Hi Steven, can you let us know what's the goal of this mapping? Would you like to be able to see who are the watchers of JIRA issue, from inside Salesforce? Do you plan to sync, or map a JIRA user with a Salesforce user? What is the Salesforce field type you plan to map to?

Hi Azwandi,

Yes. We set it up so that the case owner maps to the JIRA reporter. But we also want to make sure other JIRA users are added as watchers to the JIRA ticket that is created from Salesforce. So we created a new SF field that we hoped we could map to the watchers field in JIRA. The SF field type is Lookup(User). The Watcher also has a SF account and a JIRA account.

Thanks!
Steve

Hi Azwandi and Kevin,
I am hopping back on this conversation, and would like to ask a related question.

I am thinking on mapping the SalesForce Case Owner to the Jira Watchers list. I think the case owner would benefit in 'watching' the Jira issue, to keep track and monitor the progress in Jira.
Would it be possible to create this mapping, considering the 'Watchers list' in Jira is not a traditional exposed field.

Thank you,
Ido.

Hi Ido, you are indeed correct that watchers is not a field type in JIRA per se. JIRA admins usually work around this by adding a custom field of type 'user picker', and add this custom field in their notification scheme.

However, this might be a challenge to use with the connector, as the custom field 'user picker' is not supported (yet).

Thanks for the reply Azwandi.

I assume this business case is quite common, so hoping you can share with the
product team for further consideration.
