Hello there,

Can you share with us which menu items changes you've made and not persistent after a Confluence restart? Other than that, are you recently upgrading your Confluence from lower version?

Thanks&Regards,
Ziana

Hi, apologies for the delay replying. I spent some time testing in our Confluence Dev environment, and cannot now reproduce the issue. I'm wondering if possibly the SAVE button wasn't clicked when the earlier issues were encountered, after making some menu changes Tho in the case of Stage env I'm sure I hit SAVE after making changes. Cannot test on Stage today, but hopefully can make some changes tomorrow and restart. Will followup then.

As for env details:

Confluence was upgraded from 5.8.16 -> 5.9.3

Some of the menus modified:
* Dashboard Button Bar -> Create Space -> Disabled
* Space 'Browse' Items -> Browse Personal Space Link -> Disabled
* Space Directory Buttons -> Create Space -> Disabled
* User Menu -> Logged-in User Preferences -> Personal Space -> Disabled
* User Menu -> Logged-in User Preferences -> Add Personal Space -> Disabled
* User Menu -> Logged-in User Operations -> Log Out -> Disabled

Does this plugin do any logging? I unzipped the jar I found in /apps/atlassian/confluence-home/plugins-cache (1451936414000menu-manager-plugin-3.0.0.jar) but couldn't find any logging commands or config (no log4j.properties or other log cfg file). Also tried adding "net.customware.confluence.plugin.menumanager" to Logging & Profiling but nothing seen written to atlassian-confluence.log. Also decompiled a few of the class files but nothing obvious there either.

Cheers,

Following up. Could not replicate in our Stage env the prior issues seen with MenuManager changes persistence after a restart. Performed several Confluence restarts and changes were retained. So I'm chalking this up to operator error, as without any sort of log trail I have no proof that the original changes were in fact SAVED prior to a restart.

Feb 01, 2016 update:

I retract the above. Today on our Stage env I noticed the changes were not retained. So performed the following, taking time at each step to verify changes.
  • In MenuManager, added back menu customizations, clicking SAVE after each menu set was updated.
  • After all menu updates complete, took screenshots of changed menus.
  • Then cleared browser (Firefox) cache, exited browser and restarted it.
  • Logged into Confluence, and via MenuManager verified all changed menu items showed changed settings vs. screenshots.
  • Again cleared browser cached & exited browser.
  • Then stopped and started Confluence.
  • After Confluence restarted, started new browser session and logged into Confluence
  • Via both viewing MenuManager and viewing menus themselves, menu customizations are not retained, but have been reset to the defaults.

Hi, I couldn't login & update yesterday as your community site provider was doing service/upgrade. But I wanted to ask if there's anything I can do from my end to gather more details of this issue?

Is there any logging I can enable or any other way to assist in troubleshooting?

The issue is definitely repeatable in our 3 envs - dev, stage & prod.

Regards,

Is there any status on this issue? Has anyone else reported this or a similar issue? I don't want to waste anyone's time if you think this is not a plugin problem but something with our environment.

Hi Again, recently saw there was a new version of Menu Manager (3.1.0) available in Manage add-ons, so I updated it in our Dev instance. After some testing it appears that the changes are now persistent. Will update our Stage instance and perform more testing (in both Dev & Stage) to verify that menu changes are persistent after Confluence restarts.
