report-eval using text-data derived from a user macro value.

I am trying to use the report-eval macro to provide a calculated value.... Just what it is for.

However, what I need it to do is to use either a user macro that in essence is an include page macro with the only text being a number. So

The page has a value of say 10.

This then gets presented inside a text-data macro (using richtext) and when presented on the page gives me 10. So all good so far.

My report-eval macro looks as below but always returns a value of zero.  Data:testvar is the text-data macro with the include page user macro as a custom macro

{report-eval:format=##}((17-(%data:number1%+(%data:number2%-1) + (%data:number3%-1))) * (%data:number4% + %data:number5%)) * %data:testvar>text:as number%{report-eval}

Any help appreciated. I thought I had found the solution to having truely 'global variables' that could be stored and retrieved from anywhere :(
